Termites
Appearance: Most common species are the Florida Subterranean species. The Hagonites subterranean and Formosaen. Formosaens have been found from North Hallendale to Aventura and are
highly distructive. The more common
Florida species are found throughout
Dade and Broward
Counties with the Hagonites being more common in the Florida Keys.
Less than one half inch long. Subterranean termites have both "workers & soldiers" in the colony.
Workers are about one-forth of an inch long with no wings and a very light color. Soldiers have an elongated head with mandibles
or "pinchers."
Diet: Wood & other
cellulose material.
Habits: Depends on moisture for
survival. Colonies live underground & build tunnels in search for food. They can reach food above the ground by building
mud tunnels. One queen can lay thousands of eggs with colonies containing up to 1,000,000 members.
Solution: Liquid treatment with Termidor Liquid injection
system and exterior perimeter baiting systems depending on the severity of the problem and the species found.
